Hello,

We have a number of analog phones that when you pick them up they automatically ring the front desk, a hotline if you will.
2 of the lines don't. you get a standard dial tone.
I have been told that to change from hotline to dialtone or back the phone company (Comcast) charges us.

what?

From what I am able to glean from the seasoned professionals here, these hotlines are totally between extensions, so why would we be charged to switch them?

any help would be great.

nope. we use a separate service to maintain the pbx.
Could it have something to do with DID?
almost all our extensions are DID

I don't believe they are charging you for the call between extensions just the change to the station configuration.

Of course I didn't post till your reply clarifying your pbx situation.

The lines come from Comcast. we have 2 t1s.
Whether we hotline or dialtone, I would think inbound calls shouldn't matter.
and you still have to dial 9 on those extensions, so its not like they are direct trunks?
Maybe its just Comcast doing that Comcast thing.

Hi

I just found out from a former employee who worked hear that it is not Comcast charging us.
Like I said, the documentation is between slim and none.
It IS the company maintaining the pbx, as bhassell so rightly pointe out (Thank You!)that's charging us, which makes perfect sense.

We can close this thread now, as we rejoin our regularly scheduled forum already in progress!
