We have Windows NT and MS Office 2000 on our computers. For a co-worker of mine, whenever he opens a Word attachment and saves it to the default location, he is unable to access that file again. The default location is as follows: C:/Documents and Settings/user/local file/temp/documents - or something close to that. The problem is, when we perform a search on the entire computer for the saved file name, the file shows up nowhere in the search results. Then, when we try to find the file through Windows Explorer, we get as far as the "user" folder, but there is no "local file" folder to be found. Also, a computer search for "local file" produces no results. Where is this local file and/or where could these saved files (from the attachments) be? Also, how would one change the default path for saving email attachments?

I should add that the Word documents are attached to email files before they are saved. "local file" shows up as a folder in the path when selecting the drag down menu in the "Save As" box.

Check the default path in the registry under HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

What I am not clear on is if you are open the attachment in Word and then doing the Save As or are you just click on SAVE ATTACHMENT in Outlook? joegz

He's opening an attachment directly from the email, and when prompted to open or save, he saves the file. He does not select a path, he just saves to the default folder or path that pops up with the Save As window. It is that folder and path that we are not finding when going back to look for the document.

If you have not discovered by now the "Local Settings" folder which is where the files are getting saved is a hidden folder. If you are not displaying hidden folders this would be why you can't find it. joegz
