I work at a school and recently for the past 3 weeks accounts keep disappearing from my windows xp and windows 2000 professional workstations. The profile and files are kept in the hard drive but if you go to user accounts the student account is deleted. Everyone in the school logs on as student to the server. I can recreate the account again but after a couple of days it disappears again. I scanned for viruses and spyware but no luck it comes up clean. The computers are part of a Windows 2000 domain. sometimes the domain account gets deleted other times the local account gets delete. All in different computers anyone have any idea whats going on????? There are 3 accounts in the computer student local, student from the domain, and administrator. All the computers have all updates and NAV.

Did you check Group Polcies?
If roaming profiles, you can set to delete the local copy.

I also work for a school corporation and unfortunately am having the same issue with MS XP Pro. It started here two weeks ago but right down to the local admin level where no one can log in unless I boot in safe mode. We too scanned the systems for virus, spam you name it and can't figure it out. The only thing I can suspect is a Micrsoft Patch after the release of service pack 2. Worse yet it is happening in a random no sense matter. I have a direct contact with MS next week established so if I find the root of the evil, I will post. Sure is perplexing because it acts like a virus.????

Start, Run, lusrmgr.msc

. Are the accounts show as still there, or are they really missing?

. If there, double click a problematic user account and tell us if it is marked as disabled in the checkbox.

dgriffing did you ever speak with a direct contact at MS??? Did you figure out the problem??? Thanks
