Loading 4.3.3 on 5.1 system.

I am trying to load 4.3.3 on a p series eserver which had been running 5.1. I press f1 at E1F1 and get the menu that allows me to sellect the install medium. I select the 4.3.3 and it appears to start loading and then hangs with 0508 on the front panel. (where I would expect it to ask about the language and install options).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One comment that may be helpful, maybe not......

Depending on the model of your machine. and the cards in it.....most did not load with early versions of AIX 4.3.3 .........you had to have september or later for copper machines...and there were other problems as well........... and some cards did not have drivers until later versions of 4.3.3 ...............I would order a refresh of AIX for 4.3.3 if you have a licensed copy and install from that.........Perhaps it would help

Plain error 508 means query card in slot 8 not sure where you are seeing it.
and that might indicate that a card in your system needs a later version of AIX 4.3.3

Yes, I am trying to reinstall the whole system. Its one of two brand spanking new pSeries 610-6C1s. I am trying to install 4.3.3 labled 10/2000.

Unfortunately I typoed the error message number from the "operator panel display" it is 0518. Is there a place to look these up?

One last thing....and the refresh is a good thing...

but you might have to remove the battery and let it drain because the difference in NVRAM may be hanging you up as well......... Just a thought.

518 is filesystem corruption...which of course you would get if you were installing a new operating system..........it did not seem to stop to really let you do a complete overwrite install..

I am sure you have checked the bootlist to be sure it is set to cdrom.....etc...

I think the refresh will help......
