Hello All!!

Thank you for this resource. I have heard that there is a procedure for dowloading firmware into your 1140e and 1120e sets via a laptop/pc. We are trying to upgrade our sets to accept the o625c8j load. Is there a way do do this using only a pc...not through a CS1000? We ahve the firmware file.

you can use WinSCP and attach to the switch, then copy the file to /u/loadware, but you will still need to install the loadware from the CS1000. I would make sure you choose the option to not automatically upgrade the MGC cards after the loadware install. Just load them individually from ld 143.

Loadware <=/=> Firmware are two different things.

To load phone firmware just mannually configure the phone and point the TFTP option to your PC and be running a TFTP server like "BulletProof TFTP" or any other, there are lots out there. The phone will connect and install the file you have loaded. Just be aware that unless you turn off UFTP on the Sig server then when the phone reconnects it will pull down the original file you have loaded on the Sig server.

Another "got-ya" - From one of the later firmwares (unistim 5.3 I think) once loaded you can not roll back to the original. This will result in the phone continuously rebooting. Only fix I have found is to force the phone to SIP firmware and then rollback to the older unistim.

@Pluff
How do I manually configure the phone top point to the tftp server?

I plug in the phone then it prompts me to enter a NEW SET password which seems to not work(color*set)

I do the reboot ( MUTE UP DOWN UP DOWN UP MUTE 9) which prompts to a screen to enter the password I enter color*set(which works) then it prompts me to a screen showing me the phone IP, subnet mask, and etc. but after this point I can not do any thing else the phone does not give options that allow me to change the IP address to point to the tftp server. Can you help?

and will this work on a POE switch?( Net gear 16 port switch)

Sorry , not been on line much.
Just get into config as you described and then set everything to manual. the last (or almost last) option it TFTP IP. This will work on any switch that complies with 802.1af or use a powerpack.

JT, This phone has to be routing to a BCM in your network somewhere.....otherwise you'd get the 'Server Unreachable' message each time the phone tries to log in. Instead, the phone is looking up a BCM somewhere....Can you get to that BCM's element manager and turn off the Global Registration Password? You need to answer that question for me before we proceed further.
