I have a HP DL380G4 with Windows 2003 SP2.
I backup ALL.

Then a stopped the server and changed the HD with new ones (Empty disk).
Installed windows 2003 SP1 config network and install networker software.
Made a full restore.
reboot and get the followin messages.
load needed DLL for HAL

and the Windows didnt boot.

What have i done wrong?

I hoppe someone can help me.

Thanks
Stephan

Hello,

HAL is Hardware Abstraction Layer, thus a layer which interfaces Windows with hardware.

The backup you made contains elements related to the material (motherboard, HDD...) which are stored in the registry or in other files.
So, when restoring an 'image' to a computer which has changed, windows is not able to drive these news materials.

That a look here :

But remember that Networker backup all files, even those that are used by the OS, and perform a 'full restore' is the best way to go to difficulties.

Hi denisfr

Thanks for the answer.

The problem is. It is the same Server i made it only for a test.

So the HW has not changed.

You should take a look into the Networker Desaster Recovery Guide :

Always install the same version of the OS.

When you have Windows Sp2 backed up and then you restore it over a Windows Sp1 installation there is a nearly 100% chance you have a mixed up OS after the restore :
Some DLLs and kernel modules can not be restored because they are exclusively opened. The restore then leads to a mixup between SP1 and SP2.

Well done a060463xyz !

I didn't noticed that service packs were not the same between backup and restore.
