load image to a table cell on same page as buttons

I just want to know of the best way to load images into a table cell using a button (link) on the same page.

I just want to have a small gallery of images that I can load into a cell below some numbered buttons.

swap image behaviour would be how I would do it. Just insert a small transparent gif in to your cell then swap the image when the button is clicked.

Thanks but I dont want the button itself to change, I want to be able to load images into an empty cell by clicking a button.

You can do that with the swap image behaviour
