LOAD ERR 38 1

Old system - HP3000 918 running MPEix 5.5.

System crashed, reloaded, had all kinds of problems Back up now but main application won't run. "TOO MANY CODE SEGMENTS (LOAD ERR 38) Unable to load program to be run. (CIERR 625)"

How do I repair this??? What setting changed that I can't NOT find???

I have some questions. How recent was your backup?

Is the program you are trying to run Native or Compatability mode?

Last back up was three days before the crash/reload.

The program is 89 basic programs compiled together.

Did you recompile the program after the crash?

What is the file code of the program that is giving the loader err NMPRG or PROG?

I streamed the compile and it appears to have recompile successfully.

The program is Compatability mode. When you run it, are use using the MAXDATA parameter in the run statement?

RUN PRGXYZ;MAXDATA=32767

The 32767 is the highest value, try it and see if it works.

It's been awhile since I compiled a compatability mode program. What does your PREP statment look like for creating the executable?

I take it the compile/prep didn't change recently.

What was the hardware problem the caused the crash/reload (disk failure)? Did you have any errors on reboot?

Do you have a support contract with HP?

how much free space do you have on the system volume set?

No, nothing's changed in at least 6 months.

We had to replace one of the disks which was the beginning of the nightmare. Our SLT tape was a tad "old" but seemed to work fine - except for this.

As for support - they don't offer it for the old systems anymore. Haven't in awhile - unfortunately.

My guess is - there's a system setting somewhere that needs to be increased ...

The only the I can think of with the SLT would be a missing patch that was required for 5.5. How old was the SLT? When was the last patch loaded?

You can restore HPSWINFO.PUB.SYS from a recent backup and it will tell you went the last patchers where applied to the system and what they where for. I'm not sure if this file would have been restored with the SLT or from the restore.

You can still get HP support on "unsupported" operating systems. If you encounter a bug, they won't write a patch but they will help you with these types of problems. I'm on 6.0 PP2 and have an HP support contract.

In SYSGEN - I changed the SM SEGS PER PROC from what it was (63) to 128.

I was just looking at that on my remaining 918 in the field, which is about to be turned off, it is set to 255.

Glad you found it. It's a good idea to cut an SLT once a month.
