I have just managed to set up Livelink using the LLServlet Java servlet (with BEA WebLogic 8.1 as the application server) as my client wanted to provide external access to Livelink without having to run the standard Livelink CGI outside the firewall. It seems to work well.

Can anyone tell me any other advantages (or disadvantages) to this architecture ?

The main advantage is security. SEA servlet runs on an application server such as Oracle9iAS , Tomcat or Weblogic. As its J2EE it's more secure. Secondly, you only need to open port 443 (SSL) to internet facing traffic. Then between the Application server and Livelink server, only the standard port LAPI port is open. The file upload is now transient i.e. the temp files only exist for the lentgh of the upload. You no longer need NFS mount or mapped drive between servers. You can further increase security by placing a proxy server infront.

Its also reported to be faster. Hope this helps, Mark.
