We use a LaserJet 4050TN printer on our network. Lately, it has been leaving faint images of text vertically along the entire left side of the printed side of the page. It gets progressively worse the more pages that are printed. Taking out and cleaning the "blue" part of the toner, just on the edge, seems to clear things up a little, but it gets bad again within a day. We have also replaced the toner, but were soon met with the same results. Not knowing a tremendous amount about the internals of printers, I'm a little stumped on where to go next. Any ideas on where to look next?

Need to replace the fuser assembly.

Is it worth the extra money to get the entire maintenance kit that includes the fuser as well as a lot of other parts, or should just the fuser itself be enough? Also, how difficult is it to replace the fuser on this printer?

Thanks.

Depends on the page count...if you're getting close to 200K get the kit. If you're below 100K, your feed/sep rollers should be in good shape. Not that difficult a job.
