Does anyone know if there is an available patch for 9.5.0 for supporting Office 2007 documents or is it just a configuration setting that needs to be done? Currently we cannot upload any .docx, etc documents.

thanks in advance!!

Greg

Not possible, this is a known issue with 9.5 as it was released well before Office 2007 was released, I'd recommend an upgrade to 971 to resolve this or get the users to save as Office 2003 compatible files.

This has been discussed on the KC as well, see

Greg,

Not quite. Actually it IS possible to make 9.5 SP1 compatible with Office 2007 documents. At least, when it comes to opening/editing/saving, HTML viewing (Filterpack) is a different topic, as you don't get the latest Oracle Filters for 9.5 SP1 anyway. Full Office 2007 support is only available with 9.7.1 and Filterpack 1.0.5.

All that needs to be done is to extend the database schema (MimeType in DVersData to 255) and update the mime.types / mime.gifs with the correct MimeTypes. This is known to work and I cannot think of any negative impacts, if you know what you're doing.

We have done that in a project some time ago and it works like a charm.

On a different note, 9.5 SP1 has been phased out anyway, so all this is totally unsupported by means of official product support.

Rather than tweaking 9.5 SP1 it is indeed wiser to consider an upgrade - you can't stay on the old product forever and update all other components such as OS/Database and whatnot.

Jack,
The option of amending the size of the column was something that I had considered, it is also mentioned in the KC article I posted, but there are many issued around it including :

1. Not supported in ANY way by OT
2. Possible problems with other custom module code
3. Filter Pack Support

As you mention 95SP1 is now well out of support so they really should upgrade to 971.

Thanks guys for the information. I agree that the upgrade is the right approach. Do you know if this is a painfull upgrade, or something pretty simple?

thanks again

The vanilla upgrade, is relatively simple and the UI is very similar to that of 95SP1 anyway. What complicates the upgrade, as with any upgrade, is the number of third party and custom modules you have on your system etc.

Greg,

I have stated all this before.

Also, I do not understand what you refer to as "2. Possible problems with other custom module code" - this is a red herring in my opinion. Which application/module cares what the absolute length of a database column is? Be it 48 or 255, I haven't seen any issue with that and the systems we were working on were far from a default install, believe that.

As much as "official" product support is concerned - I stated and you stated that there is no more official product support for 9.5 SP1 anyway, so who cares?

OT Support will give you a hard time anyway, should you come along with a non-reproducible issue in a highly customized and hackstered 9.5 SP1 installation. That minimal Office 2007 modification is the smallest problem you had then, if anyone would even realize that.
