I have a MS Windows Server 2003, I have a application installed on the server and the Vendor doesn't allow any other software installed on it. We have BackupExec but I can't use it because I can't install the client on the server.
So I m looking for a solution to image the server live while it is running.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

There isn't anything that doesn't require a client of some sort to be installed.

The vendor sounds rather paranoid. Surely they have an approved list of backup solutions or similar. Or do they think NTBackup and a locally attached tape drive is the be all and end all of backup?

The only thing I could suggest as an idea is to virtualise the server using something like VMware or Xen. You can then backup the running virtual server without having to install any sort of client within the server OS.

You'll probably need to check if your supplier supports their product in a virtualised environment first.
