I have an IPKII with in-skin EliteMail. Is there a way to turn off the periodic beep when using live record? Is that beep coming from the IPKII or the voicemail?

I think by law, that beep is required by the FCC.
You can turn it off, but then you must state that calls may be recorded.
I'm not sure how to turn it off, sorry.

Do you hve an Elite Mail running DOS or Linux?

In most states it is not against the LAW to record conversations as long as 1 person in the conversation is aware that they are being recorded.

Dunno. It's brand new on an IPKII. I thought it was OS/2 to be honest like the other NEAXMail products.

be careful;

i know of some people who did turn it off and lost there jobs due to privacy issues.

dont know how they did it though.

Its fairly easy to find the list of states that require the beep. I recently search in google for "recorded phone calls" and found the list in a few clicks. There are about 10-13 states that require "all parties" to know its a recorded conversation (and a few states where you cant record at all!). Most states are one party states where only one person on the call needs to know its being recorded (doesnt matter who as long as they are part of the call and not a wire tap).

we are a 1 party state here in Texas.
