I currently seem to collect about 10GB of data per day in my MOM database which seems to be a great deal larger than Microsoft seem to suggest I should be generating with just 140 servers monitored with 10 Management packs. They seem to suggest (along with the book Essential MOM by O’ Reilly) that for every machine you should generate 24,000 bytes alerts, 0.5 MB Events and 2MB Performance which added together for one machine is 2.52 MB multiplied by 140 for the amount of agents I have it works out at 352.8 MB which seem quite a lot less than around 10 GB!!
I am looking to setup MOM Reporting and they have estimated that the data will be doubled so I would be generating 20GB going by that standard. They also suggest that the transaction logfile should be 5 or six times the amount of data that is being transferred so going by this the logfile should be about 100GB to 120GB. Which also means that if by default the reporting database is going to be huge as it logs 13 months of data. Someone please tell me I have set MOM up completely wrong or I have done my sums up as the server space I have for log files is 33GB and the database size is 210GB!!! Sizing of databases
