hi guys....
is it possible to list the properties, like the size, of the hdisk before assigning it to a volumegroup....

thanx jauboo....
lsdev gives the scsi id and other details but not the size of the hdisk and lspv hdisk# cannot give details unless it is assigned to a volume group.

lscfg -v

might show you the info you require. At the very least it should identify the make and model of the disk and you can use that information to get more details from another source.

yes lscfg gave me the model no. and other details...but i cudnt find the information about it on the net...its a emc storage system and there are 100s of disks in it...some with 4gb and some with 8gb....but anyway the input was helpful to do away with further investigation....
thanx..

more than likely, the EMC will present logical disks to the system, not physical. So you will not find any information about the disks on the web, based on what the AIX system sees their sizes as. This is also why they can vary in sizes. In order to find out what type and size of disks are really in the EMC frame, you will probably have to call EMC.
