Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows where you can obtain a list of websites that are known to infect your computer with spyware? Does such a list exist? I know of a music lyric website that infected one of my co-worker's computers with spyware and was just wondering if anyone had a list of known websites to stay away from. Of course he shouldn't be using his computer at work for non-business related issues, and his new computer was working fine until then, but that's what I have been telling everyone. If such a list exists, it sure would be a handy thing to have to try and combat this problem at work.

Here are several different approaches in defining bad places on the Internet and/or thier characteristics:

The Hosts File and what it can do for you.

Have a look at 'SpyBlocker', for example, an app with 30K of blocked host entries for known (and deemed) bad places.

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware, Hijackers, and Malware.

The 'kit bit' approach is a generic ActiveX disabling approach.

Using IE-Spyad to enhance your privacy and security.

This essentially adds a list of restricted sites to the IE restricted zone.

WOW! I can't believe all of the websites that are listed in the Hosts file I downloaded. Some of them you can enter by mistake, just by mispelling a common website like yahoo.

Thanks.

No list of bad sites is complete and all are ever growing. You're far better of using tools like those listed above than trying to maintain a list by yourself.

In addition you should still run scanning tools periodically to catch and clean what will still get through. Spybot and Ad-Awaer are two free tools that do a good job.
