Greetings to All...

We have a BCM 200 3.6 with Call Pilot.

I know that to "create" a new Extention (DN) you have to take an existing DN (that is not in use) and do a "Change DN" operation on it to come up with the new number.

My question is:
How can you tell which DN's are truly not in use at all and available for this ?

The list of "Inactive DN's" include numbers/Target Lines used for purposes like the "Express Messaging Line" for Unified Messaging Faxing.

Thanks,

Eduardo

If you go under the telephony portion, and you can list the "inactive DN's" to give you a list of the system DN's that are not used. Just ensure that the port number on the DN is an accessible port ( that you have a digital module on that particle port ranges).

There are only 2 seasons in Canada, Golf and Snowmobile season.

The list of "Inactive DN's" include DN's that are Active.

For example our direct fax lines have DID numbers that show up on target lines that are then used under Call Pilot's "Express Messaging Line" field for "Unified Messaging Faxing."

My Direct Dial is (XXX) XXX-1746 (target 257), my Extention number is 1746, my direct fax is (XXX) XXX-1747 (target 258), the list of Inactive DN's includes 1747.

I'm setting up IP phones, so the Digital Module number does not apply.

Thanks

If your direct fax is (XXX) XXX-1747 (target 258), What DN is the Target 258 pointed to??

If I understand you correctly, you merely have the received digits programmed in on your target line.. Is that correct?

To my way of understanding, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but this does not assign the DN, therefore the DN would show up as inactive because the DN itself is not assigned to anything.

If you call 1747 directly from inside what happens? Do you you get the fax or do you get a not in service message?

Again, having not used the Unified Messaging Faxing feature, I am not certain and could be way off here, but everything else you've said sounds as if that is the issue.

The tTarget Line indeed has the received digits for that DID.

You are correct, if you call 1747 from the inside you do get a "Not in Service".

I can probably weed out the DN's that correspond to Direct Fax Target Lines from the list, but my concern was that since I saw those there, perhaps other types of not quite Inactive DN's are listed as well. I would be specially worried about things like Voice Mail ports.

The Voice Mail ports will show up in the BCM monitor program under the VOICE PORT tabs. This will show all your Voice CTI ports (Voice Mail and ACD ports etc..)
I believe these extensions do not show up in inactive ports either, but the VOICE PORTS tab on the BCM Monitor is a good place to look to see all the ports in use.

Great, I had forgoten about BCM Monitor. I tried to use it and got the following:

"Unable to connect (IP Address) - error 1203"

Any ideas ?

Hmm.. I couldn't find anything in the Program Help that gives error codes.
Are you running it remotely? Did you look in the documentation.

The error you are receiving is a generic error if the PC you are on, is unable to contact the BCM.It is not a fault with the BCM services but a possible problem with the path to the BCM.

Marshall

I'm running it from my Windows XP SP1 Laptop, the documentation does not have anything related to the error message.

I do see (and now understand your question better) that it can be run from the BCM by connecting to it using VNC. I downloaded and installed the VNC viewer, but was unable to connect; I get an Error message: "unable to connect to host: Connection refused (10061)".

Do I have to change any settings on the BCM to allow this connection ?

>>>The error you are receiving is a generic error if the PC you are on, is unable to contact the BCM.It is not a fault with the BCM services but a possible problem with the path to the BCM.>>>>

I can Ping the address and also connect to the BCM administrator at the same address.

Do I need to specify a port number on the "System Name or IP Address" of the Login Screen to the BCM Monitor ?

Are you on the local subnet of the BCM? YES

Have you a firewall running on windows? NO

Have you any antivirus products that might be preventing it access the network? Symantec Corporate 9.0
