I'm currently running this version Linux 2.2.14-5.0. As a newbie, not quite sure which version I upgrade to from here. Any suggestions? Can I jump versions?

Thanks.

Tony

What distribution? The latest kernel may not be necessary depending upon the application. Mandrake uses 2.2.17 in 7.2 with the option of loading the beta 2.4 kernel. I have not found the need to upgrade for our applications.

As a newbie, I'm not quite sure how to determine the distribution. Is "i686" correct? Just to give you a little more detail, I'm running RH Linux 6.2.

Thanks for your help.

Tony

RH 6.2 is the distribution, running on an i386 machine. The i386 is the processor and architecutre, and RH 6.2 is the version on Redhat linux you hvae, probably using the 2.2.XX kernel. I would upgrade to 7.0 if I were you.

In upgrading modules and distributions, why are some designated i386 and i686. And does this matter?
