Linux to Windows IMAP issue

Hi, weird problem -

I'm using @Mail (in client mode) on a CentOS 4 Linux box (3Ghz Xeon, 1GB RAM) to provide a webmail interface for my remote users. The @Mail client communicates via IMAP to an internal mail server (W2K Pro running Ability Mail Server v 2.22). The web interface is SSL-encrypted and runs on Apache (2.0.52) on the Linux box.

I've noticed some odd behaviour since moving the @Mail client from another Windows box to the Linux box. Most prominently, upon sending an email, the Compose page appears to "hang" for up to 2 minutes. Email messages that are over 1 kb in size do not get copied to an email user's Sent Items folder on the W2K box when sent. However, the actual email message is being delivered normally - oftentimes arriving at their destination before the user's Compose page refreshes.

In talking w/ the support staff at CalaCode, an IMAP issue is suspected as the problem. My question is, does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? The send function of the @Mail client worked fine when it was on the Windows box and the only thing changed (other than moving it to Linux) was to adjust the webmail firewall rule for the IP of the new Linux box.

I've probably not provided near-enough info - if you have ideas, please ask for any additional information that would help.

Thanks as always...

An IMAP issue?

IMAP doesn't send mail. It's possible that you are looking for IMAP authentication before being allowed to send, but that doesn't seem to match your symptoms.

You should try (from Linux) a telnet to port 25 of the mail server and see what is going on. Full directions at
If that all goes smoothly and doesn't require authentication, it's some client-side issue.

Thanks for your reply,

Maybe I didn't make that clear - mail is sent via SMTP but the @Mail client then transfers a copy of the sent mail, via the IMAP protocol (according to the CalaCode support staff), to the user's Sent Items folder on the internal mail server. This is where they think the problem is occurring and I have some evidence to support their theory (missing messages that are over 1 kb, truncated messages, etc).

I'll try the telnet test tomorrow - hopfully that will shed some light on this issue.

Thanks again...I'll post back if I find anything.
