Linux n00b.... any help is appreciated

I am getting a second PC which I plan to install Linux on, but I have absolutely 0 experience with it before. Is it one of those things where i can install it and just get comfortable with it naturally? Are there any site out there that provide tutorials or anything? Thanks for your guys help and patience!
 
For knoppix: Knoppix has a good hardware-detection, which is important for beginners.

Every distribution has it's forums, where you find general information and specific help.

In bigger cities you may find a LUG - Linux-User-Group where you even may appear with your machine.
