where in linux do i go to see all the logs files for the operating system? im in /var/log but dont see anything related to the OS. also is there a way for me to log all the changes/modications made to the OS?

/var/messages and /var/secure are the two I use the most (rhel5)

you can change what and where your system logs (syslog) are logged to via the /etc/syslog.conf file.
