I'm having a problem installing a locally attached printer using a Linux workstation. The printer is attached to the first parallel port on the Linux workstation and I can print to it no problem outside of Citrix. When I log into a Citrix session and start the Add Printer Wizard and select Network - Client, nothing shows up. Its supposed to show LPT1, but there is nothing. I have gotten this to work on different MFXP farms. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris

I'm not certain about Linux clients, but normally you do NOT need to manually install the client's printer in their session. If the client side driver matches one that's installed on the Citrix Server then it will be autocreated. If it is not autocreated you can map the printer to a built-in printer using the printer mapping function of the Citrix Management Console.

Printing info here:

Stefan at printingsupport may have specifics about Linux clients.

Yeah, this works for Windows clients but not the Linux clients that we're deploying for some reason. If you can't manually add the printer, there is no way it will auto-create. I think I read something about an .inf file being messed up if the printers don't show up at all.

These should help:

It may be necessary to manually configure the printer attached to the local computer. This is done by adding the following information to the wfclient.ini file. The file can be found in the home user directory under the /.ICAClient/wfclient.ini.

The details below are provided for an example. The Default Printer will be the name you have the printer manually defined as. The Default Printer Driver is a universal printer driver identified by the Citrix application and recognises most HP or equivalent laser printers. DefaultPrinter=WIL028 DefaultPrinterDriver=Citrix PCL4 Universal Driver

Thanks, that worked. I set up CUPS and installed the printer locally. Next, I edited the /usr/lib/ICAClient/config/wfclient.ini file and added the following in the [WFClient] section...

DefaultPrinter = LaserJet1100
DefaultPrinterDriver = Citrix PCL 4 Universal Driver

The printer did not autocreate, but I was able to manually add it via the Add Printer Wizard in Windows.

Thanks for the help,
Chris
