Hi,

I am faced with a bit of a tough situation, I'm new to Linux and Netware, and I need to be able to get a Mandrake 8.0 Linux Server configured as a Server to be able to see a netware 4.0 server when browsing the network. I know this is a bit vauge in explanation but anything at all would be help at the momnet.

Cheers,

Hmmmm. Well you might check out ncpfs and mars_nwe but these are kind of shakey at best. I would only try it on a small network with very low usage. You may opt for a commercial package offered by Caldera's OpenLinux from

Thanks RhythmAce,

So far that is a help, anything else from anyone would be good. Question????? Is there any known problems with connecting Linux to Netware?

Cheers,

Most will say a linux/Windows network is a little more robust than linux/NetWare. Samba is easy and free to use so Novell is left out of the loop. Although Ncpfs and Mars_nwe are free, I think they are only compatible with NetWare ver. 3.x and you are running 4.x. Other than that, I don't know of any problems you will have once they are set up. Linux/NetWare configurations are not very common. I would guess it's because it is not the best way to go.

Unless you have Netware 5.X and above Server, then Linux will not be able to see the 4.x server because earlier versions of NetWare use Service Advertising Protocol (SAP) to advertise the tree. NDS for Linux (eDirectory) uses Service Location Protocol (SLP) as do 5.x on up servers. So you would need to upgrade your 4.x server to 5.x or above. The Caldera solution mentioned above may be the best way to go.

I configured Linux RedHat 7.1 connect to netware server.
And Y should set the configuration file for mars nwe for netware server name and frame type.
After that you can use this command :
# ncpmount -s netware servername -U admin /test
For more detail about ncpmount, you can use man ncpmount.
Maybe my experience can help you.
Good Luck !!!
