Hi all,
I have a 6509 and i only want to monitor the status of the fibre ports in the supervisors but if i turn on linkup/linkdown in the snmp traps config it turn it on for all ports.

i can turn it off for all ports that i dont want with "no snmp trap linkstatus" but this makes the config larger...

is there a way i can turn it on for just the ports i want???

Just go into the indivdual ports on the 6509 and add the following statement to each port you do not want to trap on .
"no snmp trap link-status" . You don't indicate if this is catos or IOS . For a catos box it is "set port trap slot/port enable or disable" depending on what you want to do.

Thanks, Thats what ive already worked out but just wondered if i can turn it off by default and just turn it on on certain ports (336 extra lines of config to turn the linkup/down off makes the config considerably larger)

You can disable linkdown traps globally:

no snmp-server enable traps snmp linkdown

However this will disable ALL linkdown traps until you re-enable the above command.
