I just purchased the wrt54g ran the cd, set the router to static, inputted my ISP information, left dchp enabled on the router for clients. Wireless seems to be working fine, I have a pc physically connected to the router with its own static IP and I can get an internet connect. Then I start downloading torrents, connections is still good but then maybe an hour after I can't seem to get an internet connection, but my torrents are still downloading and not at crazy speeds that it would be killing my bandwidth.

Any ideas how i can stop this from happening, seems like everyday I have to power cycle the router to get back on the internet. Should I be upgrading the firmware? Any other ideas out there, Any help is much appreaciated

Eckey,

I would go to the Linksys site and make sure you are using the latest firmware for that model router.

I have also see in other forums people bring up heat issues, make sure that the router has plenty of air flow all around it. One forum I read the guy glued 35mm film "cans" or prescription bottles where the legs are to get the router several inches higher for better airflow under the router.

You could also run speed tests connected to the router and connect your computer directly to the modem - try same download and see if the same thing is happening.

Just some thoughts!

Thanks CiscoGuy33, I ended up going to the linksys site and downloaded and uploaded the new firmware version to the router. It didn't totally fix the issue but I'm not losing connections as quickly as I was before. I figured out what is causing the problem, it has to do with my torrents and the fact that I have it forwarded to port 1720 (VOIP) what it ends up doing is opening up a bunch of sessions and not closing them, so they just keep building up and that is what is causing the connections to crash. So basically I'm invoking Denial of service on myself. A way to fix this is to throttle the bandwidth going to that PC, so far its working great.

Thanks again for your input

Cheers
