My usb wireless nic stopped working all of a sudden. I'm getting the error "the name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name" when I try to reinstall it. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

run "SC" in dos window and see if you can ID / stop service

The problem is I don't know the name of the service for that device.

How do I find that out?

Probably have the default name (LinkSys), and someone nearby got another and didn't change the name.

You have to open the browser to the GATEWAY address, and supply the username and password. This will allow you to reset the WIFI section.

You can also press the reset button, which returns the router to default configuration, but you'd have to set up everything else at the same time.

The problem was some linksys settings were stuck in the registry, and for some reason the usb device had been detecting a previously installed device. I hesitantly went in and deleted the entries and the device installed again.
