Linksys wireless router BEFW11S4 1

What's wrong with it!For weeks I have been trying to troubleshoot its overall performace.Every so often it will drop its connection and I have to go and enable and disable it.as well as the wired machines hooked up to it Why? I did perform the firmware update. I figured it might have something to do with the ipv v6 but its not! and this is for windows xp and vista machines
I have been through various links and trouble shoot blogs and post and stumbled on something wierd!One individual said to put a hub inbetween the surfboard modem and the router. I said what? how? it wont work! it shouldnt, Being that the hub doesnt broadcast ips and dns info to say the least. I hit on to something though. I hooked up and old router inbetween the modem and the wireless router being that I couldnt find a hub and gave it a shot and it worked but once again dropped.So I disabled the dhcp on the wireless router gave it an ip of 192.168.1.110 and then re set everything. Its pulling dhcp from the BEFSR41 NOW.. and working flawless.Im praying the individual that stumbled upon trying to put a hub inbetween the router and the modem was thinking about trying to boost his speed or something and trying to get that to work. If he didnt ever try it ot mention it, I wouldnt have stumbled upon this config I have for the modem-wired router-wireless router to pc's....its working great. A little overkill for a home set up buts its running fine !! thanks man you are awesome........

A short answer to your problem is most likely this: You had two DHCP servers trying to service DHCP requests from your PC.
Without getting into technical details about allocating IP addresses to specific servers and all....generally speaking you should only have ONE DHCP server in your network.

I have read your note several times to try and understand how your setting up the hardware of your network. It sounds like you may have had your Wireless Router connected to your BEFSR41 Cable/DSL Router. Both of your Routers by default will try to serve DHCP requests from your PC, and they get confused and the link drops to your PC. And it is possible that your Wireless Router was requesting a DHCP address from the BEFSR41 Cable/DSL Router.

If this is indeed how you had your network setup, then disabling DHCP on the wireless router and setting a fixed IP address on it would force your PC to get its DHCP address from the BEFSR41 Cable/DSL router.

Giving your Wireless Router a fixed IP address stopped it from requesting a renewal of its IP address from the BEFSR41 router, then the Wireless Router could lease an IP address from its POOL to your PC.

Well i know it was over kill to have two routers for this little home network. But i have read all the info you had mentioned and yes indeed the wireless is pulling Ip's dchp from the wired router, The problem was that i noticed when my neighbor came home i had the isseues. Only to find out that they have some real high end chordless phone. I Changed the channel on the router from 6 to 11 and i have yet to have a problem!!!! Now thats funny !!!

Not as weird and/or uncommon as you think! I hope you have your router locked down, so that your neighbor is not

C.Selling crack next door to you (has nothing to do with locking down the router).
