I'm using the Linksys Wireless AccessPoint/Router (Wireless-B 802.11b)with Windows XP Home. I was using the Linksys USB Adapters (802.11b) on a Windows 98SE computer and on a Windows XP Pro computer. They all connected to the internet fine.

I now have two computers both running Windows XP Pro ... one with a Wireless-G USB adapter and the other computer with the Wirless-B USB adapter. These adapters are all compatible with each other.

The computer using the WIRELESS-G USB adapter works fine and connects to the internet through the router fine. The second computer, using the WIRELESS-B USB Adapter, SOMETIMES connects to the router but DOES NOT connect to the internet. This is the computer with my problem. It
also says there's more than one wireless network present, but when i go to choose the network to connect to, only one network is present. I click the box to connect to that network and it still DOES NOT connect.

Can anyone help me get the second computer to get and stay ONLINE??

. Access the router setup page and be certain you are set to "Mixed" mode
. Be certain for all client workstation adapters that 802.1x authentication is not enabled
. For the Windows XP clients, move to Service Pack 2. Use the Wireless Provisioning Wizard.

I have the Mixed mode selected ... this i had already checked as I tried to work this out with Linksys Tech Support unsucessfully.

I will check this .. "Be certain for all client workstation adapters that 802.1x authentication is not enabled," ... when i get home this evening.

I will also try pushing SP2 on this machine although this wireless network is my home network .. used only to connect to the internet and nothing else ...

Any other suggestion? I thought up just reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling everything from scratch then reconnect the USB adapter and HOPE that it all works fine. I originally setup/configured this computer using the on board LAN directly to my Wireless AccessPoint/Router.

A reformat, reinstall is not required.

. if the problem computer is using a PCMCIA adapter, and is using a TI PCMCIA controller chipset, you need a special version of the driver software. See the Linksys support pages:
The Linksys WT54G/GS is one of the most interesting and fun things to play with in personal computers at the moment. When Linksys released the firmware code for these routers under Open Source/GPL several took the opportunity to create enhanced firmware for these devices. If you own of these little wireless routers, it is worth your time to explore a bit. I personally use Sveasoft subscription firmware, but there are many choices:
