Linksys switch problem with Cisco Catalyst 4000

I recently purchased a Linksys SRW2024 switch. I am trying to connect the switch to a Cisco Catalyst 4000. I have set the GBIC port's connecting both switches to trunk mode. But, I still can't access the vlan's available to me on the Cisco switch. The VLAN's on the Catalyst are distributed through a VTP server. The encapsulation mode on the Catalyst is set dot1q. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do get this to work. Thanks in advance.

have you set the same vtp domain and password?
can you see the switches with cdp? Not sure if linksys do cdp actually..but can you ping them?

I've looked through the entire web configuration utility of the Linksys and I see no place to set the VTP domain. The Linksys doesn't do CDP so I can't check that. And as far as pinging goes I've tried to ping the Linksys switch from the Catalyst and it didn't work but the IP address of the switch is a private address on the default VLAN. DO you think I should be able to ping it? Thanks for the help.

If the IP addresses are not on the same subnet, you will not be able to ping or communicate with it on that level.. but the Catalyst should still route the traffic.

ok, so this is not going to work..just realised that VTP is a Cisco-proprietary protocol and it won't work (yet?) with linksys. As linksys is Cisco since some time it might work in the (near) future, but might not
You have to manually enter the vlans in the linksys switch.

I doubt that Linksys will support it anytime soon, as with every new Linksys device you are shown the ability to "trade up" to a Cisco device..

there has to be a reason why you'd want to "trade up" from the Linksys to Cisco, and VLANs are one of the reasons.

I tried manually creating the VLAN's in the switch and that didn't work either. Maybe I did something wrong. I'll play around with it some more. Thanks for the help guys.
