I have a home-networking problem I'm a little stumped with. I have a total of four computers. One upstairs with a Motorola cable modem connected to a Links wireless router. The other three I have in the basement. All the matching cards are installed with the downstairs computers. I have had this working for almost two weeks without any problem. Yesterday, the computers downstairs cannot connect to anything. I can't ping any of the downstairs computers to anything, including the router. It says "host is unreachable" The computer upstairs where the modem and router are, work fine. When I look in My Network Places, it says that "Media is disconnected" on the downstairs computers. When I attempt to connect, I get the box that says "Webpage not available offline, retry or work offline" Something like that. I do not get the "Page cannot be displayed" message. There have been no physical changes. I have reinstalled the cards, the drivers, and even the O/S and still nothing. Just wondering if anyone can share some light on where I can look next, as I'm at a loss.

We need a little more information:

. What operating system, and what service pack level
. What wireless client software are you using
. Have you enabled WEP, WPA, and/or MAC filtering
. Have you tried changing the channel on the router to something like 1 or 11?
. Have you set the antenna orientation on the router to one at 12 noon and one at 3 o'clock
. Have you set a unique ESSID on the router instead of 'linksys'

Oops sorry, I have XP-Pro SP2 on all computers except for one downstairs in which I have 2003 Server Enterprise. On the router, DHCP is enabled (as well as the computers), SSID is enabled and all the computers have the same name. No security is enabled at all since I only use this for school. It's in mixed mode, no MAC filtering. I left the "router name" tab as is "Linksys router" as it worked before, so I just left it. I've moved the antenna, but nothing. I also changed the channels on the back of the router, but not in the Linksys program. This didn't help either. The "Network Connection" icon in the taskbar on all downstairs computers has the red X and says "Wireless Connection is unplugged". It's almost like someone physically moved the computers in the basement 5 miles away. Again, nothing was touched on anything and the computer upstairs works fine. The only thing different is the that I downloaded Bitlord Torrent file sharing program on the upstairs computer, but I don't see how that would disable the others without any effect on the upstairs one. I haven't reset the router and cable modem yet. Any info wuld be greatly appreciated. thanks:)

Your BT client can easily overhwelm the router's internal tables, and exhaust its ability to do much of anything. A suggestion from the Web: "If you are going to keep the max number of connections per torrent to 35, then also make sure the global amount of connections(right under the per torrent option) is less than 200 or so.

I have mine set to 150 users per single torrent and have had no problems with using the web while using BT. My upload is set to 20KB/sec and have had many torrents max out my download speed of 4Mbps."
