I recently set up a linksys router with my DSL modem and have added all the cmputers in the house just fine. But, we now cannot play online games or do online filesharing because of the firewall. Is there any way around this?

Sure, forward whatever port the application requires, to the pc that's using it.

1) You need to know what 'port' the application uses. Usually this can be found on the programs web site - search for 'firewall'.

2) Find out the IP address of the pc to be used. For Win9x & Me systems 'winipcfg'; for NT, 2K or XP 'ipconfig /all'. Your ip address will be 192.168.1.xxx

3) Access the router admin at and forward the port to the computer.

The forwarding tab is not currently available. It says:
"This Advanced router feature is not currently available
if you are an AOL Broadband user or if you have the
AOL Parental Controls option enabled in the Router."

Are you an AOL user? Do you want the router to enforce AOL's parental controls? If your answer is 'no' and 'no', go to the security tab to disable it.

Don't know - I don't use AOL. Are you using the most recent firmware? I noticed the the Linksys web site has 2 firmwares for most routers - AOL and non AOL. You could try the non AOL version, but make sure you also have the AOL version handy in case something goes wrong.
