What does it take to get one of these running in airport "hot spots?" Have a client that wants to use it at home with his cable connection, and on the road. Haven't seen the device or the software yet, just curious what I'm looking at. Any preferred wireless router for the home? Can I set it up so that he doesn't have to alter ip settings, just have it automatically pickup on whether its at home or on the road, or do I need different "profiles" setup within the software.

Not quite clear...are you installing this WPC55AG to a macintosh computer? or does your client basically just wanna connect to any available networks at all times, with this card?

Same as other cards, it should automatically detect signal of wireless networks around it...should there be no security settings, it should be able to connect to that wireless network.

Macintosh? No.

He has a laptop with win2k. At home, he currently has an older microsoft wireless router. I suspect he'll need a new linksys router compatible with this new card he bought. But yes, he wants to be able to connect to different networks on the fly. Just curious what might be involved. Specifically looking for someone who's seen or knows for a fact how it work at airports.

I hope you realize that the various airport and hotel locations are not under the same wireless provider.

T-Mobile and others active in this market all offer clients. Try 'Boingo' free, and available with a simple Google search.

This will at least identify the hot spots. But again, you have to pay to play.

Thanks, that's the info I needed. Working in the small business sector all day every day, we don't see a lot of wireless, and what we do see are wireless access points to get estimators and sales people to attach to office networks, not for ISP activity. That Boingo page has a lot of info I needed. Thanks again.
