I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 (4 port router w. WAP), which works great. Recently, I added a D-Link repeater DWL-800AP+.
They both work together, but only with WEP disabled!
I've made sure that the HEX code is typed correctly, but to no avail.

Is this a common incompatibility issue between different manufacturers?

Thanks!

shouldn't be...as long as they are using same wireless standard

I think you will have a problem there. the befw11s4 does not communicate properly to access point running as repeaters because it does not have the capability to do so. You may have to add a new access point connected hardwired connected to router/ap and then repeat the signal from there.but that connection you have might probably work its not a 100% sure.

I have the same Linksys router and am trying to use the same D-Link 800AP+ as a repeater too - have been banging my head on the wall trying to get them to talk. No luck yet. I have WEP enabled. Did you ever get this to work?

What about the other suggestion of using the 800AP as an AP, connected by wire. Did you try this? Did it work with WEP enabled?

thanks

Linksys does not endorse any of its wireless routers as either clients from repeaters or as repeaters themselves.

You can, with some of its AP products, have them act in client mode (essentially a wireless bridge), or as part of a bridge to an identical Linksys AP, or as part of a wireless distributed network.

But there is zero support for any other manufacturer's product whether as bridge, client, or WDL repeater.

None.

Disable DHCP, and run cable from the original router to the Linksys unit. Cable, not wireless connection. See:
