Hi

We have recently purchased the linksys befsx41 router with 4 port switch and firewall, we have a 1mbit ntl:
cable connection.

4 machines running winXP. 2 With realtek NIC cards, one
with a usb NIC, 1 built in

Installed the cable connection fine on one of the machines, then went about setting the router up.

2 certain machines run fine with the router and the internet connection is perfect (even in different ports), but when we add the other 2 machines to the network, it works for about 5 minutes, then we start getting "Cannot find server or DNS Error" messages and images on web
pages do not load properly.

Someone suggested turning off the advanced firewall

features. No more DNS errors, pages load fine. however it is as slow as
hell.

Linksys suggested taking all adware and spyware off of the machines. Done that, still no joy.

Have tried playing with MTU settings, tried switching network cards to 10BT, and have tried placing static ips on all the machines.

Am running kazaalite (no spy/adware) and IE on all machines

Also, i tried the d link DI604 router and the same problem occured.

Dont know what to do next! Please help

I had a similar problem a while back with the same model. I'm guessing that your unit is configured as router. I can't remember where it is at the moment but there is a page that lets you make it act like a gateway instead of a router. You can still have the firewall system running in this mode. After I made this change I didn't have any more problems with it.

The setting I mentioned is under the "Dynamic Routing" page.
I logged into my unit to make sure I wasn't giving you the wrong info. I'm not sure what should be in the RIP entries but mine is set to RIP1 for both transmit and receive.

I hope that helps.

Hi ,

i have the same router as you , i have the same problems as you too , the DNS not found ( for 30% of the site i surf to ) , and i face hotmail and those free webmail login errors .

Apparently i check with the router log , it seems the bugger is dropping packets coming from those site i mention above .

I have email my region support ( they sucks !!! ) , and i have spoken to US online chat helpdesk , in the end all the solution they offered me does not solve the problem at all ....

in the end i reflash the router with old firmware 1.443 and everything works perfectly again ....it seems there is bug in the firmware ... i have email the support@linksys.com , but they do not reply me again ( sighz )

tip* : to get firmware 1.443 , you have to do a FTP to ftp.linksys.com via annoynomous account , the old firmware is located in BEFSR41 folder ...

cheers and hope everything works fine after this

regards
