Hello everyone. I really need some help bigtime

I have a SOlwise703 modem with a ethernet port. I have set the lan port to 192.168.3.1

On the linksys i have set it to 192.168.3.2 but i cant ping the router on 192.168.3.1

WTF is going on?

Can someone please help me out

As the modem provides NAT, DHCP etc. You need to configure the BEFSR41 as follows:

. Disable DHCP
. Set to router and not Gateway
. Set to obtain an address automatically

Then the cable from the modem should go in the router's UPLINK port.

many thanks for all your help.

Is there any reason why i cant use the wan port?

Short answer: cause it won't work.

Long answer: because the linksys views both addresses as being local to the LAN side of the router, and never refers it to the WAN side of the router.

Is there no real way of using it?

Also linksys aside , i have 5 ip address that zenadsl have given me which should be non nat but for some reason i can not use them unless i use nat. Why might that be?

Many thanks for your help

From the Solwise web site:

"The SAR703 is a single-port ADSL-Modem-Router suitable for use with ISP accounts which provide a single static or dynamic IP address. NAT (Network Address Translation) routing shares your single external IP address across your internal LAN."

What your ADSL provider gave you was likely 5 IP addresses that are outside of the DHCP range of the modem, and therefore work without potential conflict as static ips along side modem DHCP assigned ones.

But they do not provide non-NAT addressing to you. The modem as quoted by the manufacturer above admits of only 1 WAN side connection. I think you would discover this pretty quickly on your own if you attempt any server-type application without port forwarding.

With IPCOP you can use multi external ip address with one modem router. How can i use the modem in non nat mode and still get a connection?

Do i need to port forward

Sorry i am a newbie

See the IPCOP discussion.
You are confusing me.

At least understand that your modem will support only one external IP address. One. Not five. Not two. One.

alright calm down!!!!!!!

sorry i dont know as much as you

I am calm. I just want to emphasize very strongly that there are two very hardware related problems you face trying to use 5 external IPs:

1. Your modem only lets you use one, unless you can set it to bridge mode; I saw no option to do that from their site, but it may be there.

2. Your router only lets you use one. period.
