Hello. I'm still currently learning a lot about PBX and VOIP systems. I currently have a standard PBX system (Model PBX-308I) and just bought a Voice Pro VP206 by Voice Logic. I am know that Voice Logic is no longer in business.

The PBX-308I is 2 lines and 8 extensions, and the Voice Pro is 2 lines and 6 extensions with voicemail. I am trying to link the two together, but the manual is very vague and brief when it comes to linking the two together, other than saying that is must be installed ahead of the current PBX which is understandable. I'm just not sure what lines plug in where on each system. Obviously the CO line will come into Line 1 (I only have one line) on the Voice Pro, but what line(s) go from that into the PBX-308I??

What I want to do, if possible, is use the Voice Pro for voice mail and the extensions and use the additional extensions on the PBX-308I, but how will the Voice Pro know what extensions are on the PBX-308I???

If not possible I would rather use the PBX-308I as I have two more extensions on that one, and use the Voice Pro for voicemail only, but according to others I have spoken to, I can interface this very easily and use all 14 extensions (6 & 8) with the voice mail. The PBX-308I can do everything the Voice Pro can do (auto attendant, call forward, Transfer no answer, DND, 3 party, etc), but no voicemail.

Also, does anyone know what the RS232 port is on the back of the VP206? I think it's for the Door Chime, but there is nowhere in the manual or the addendum that explains what that port is. The manual states to assign one of the extensions as the door chimes but nothing about RS232 port.

And finally, I know you obviously need a door speaker for the door chime, but is there additional equipment other than the door chime speaker to purchase? I'm just trying to get all this right before spending anymore money! Thanks for any help!!!

Who makes the Model PBX-308I?
Usually to tie to systems together you will need tie lines or virtual lines. You sill need to assigned a range of ext to one and CDP those numbers form the other.
What I mean is all calls need to come into one system and depending on the line or extension it will be forwarded to the other system via a tie line- than if the call goes unanswered the call reverts back to the other.
It’s simple to do this, but not easy. You might have 2 systems that are not compatible or be able to do this type of call flow.

The Model 308I is a SOHO. Several people said it can be done and that both systems are compatable and are basic PBX's, but I'm not sure how to wire it together or direct it to extensions. Does one wire go from one of the VP206 extensions or do I need a double connector for CO line 1 on the VP206, and connect it from that into the CO line on the SOHO Model 308I?

From the VP206 manual, extension 10-15 are set, and all other extensions are virtual. Also it states that it should be installed ahead of the existing PBX. I'm just trying to get more extensions out of this as well as utiize voicemail. I'm not too concerned with which system manages everything (which I would assume would be the VP206 being installed ahead of the 308I). Thanks.

You are giving way too much credit to the out of business manufacturer of a 2 line by six extension phone system.
The serial port was for "future" use. Guess that's not happening.

If you have $100 in the 206, you paid too much. The actual use would be to put the 206 BEHIND the 308. That means if no one answers, the 206 can act as a "voice mail" system to some number of phones in the 206 and virtual extensions in the 308. Or sell everything and get a real system. I would be concerned that the system behind an extension would have a rough time dropping calls after the message has been left, but there's a Viking fix for that too :)
