I have a G3si V11 that has DCS dialing using IP trunking to 3 other G3si switches. My customer would like to add another location which has a Nortel Meridian 81C. This Nortel switch has 5 T1's for two way calling, but none have ISDN. I don't think the ISDN feature has even been turned on. My question is, how can I link the Nortel to the G3 and have it act something like DCS?

Any ideas, or suggestions?

If you connect them using a T1 you should use Qsig to connect them.

The Uniform Dial Plan (UDP) feature in the Definity switches will enable 4 or 5 digit dialing between switches. If you connect the switches via ISDN-PRI trunks you will get names display. Most of the other DCS features will not work. DCS is an Avaya propriatary protocol.

4merAvaya,

Thanks for responding..
For some reason I thought that UDP was on the G3R only. Are you saying I have it on the G3si V11 ?

yes, all version 11 switches have UDP turned on by default

you can get UDP in any size of switch..

BuckWeet,

Thank you !

If I use Qsig between the G3si and Nortel will the name and extension number appear at both ends?

yes, but you must have the ISDN feature turned on at both sides, and have QSIG enabled

you said that ISDN isn't enabled at the nortel side..

BuckWeet,

Yes, at this time the Nortel does "not" have ISDN. I understand that it needs to be administered for the Qsig to work. Once this is installed will both ends see the name and ext number, just like regular DCS?

Thanks for your help...
