Does anyone know how to link two NEC NEAX 2000s with only ISDN cards? I am mainly looking at routing calls from one switch to the other and vica versa and transfering between them. I only have ISDN cards not the CCH card but know that it is possible as I have done it between a Samsung and NEC NEAX 2000 IPS.
Otherwise what is the other most cost effective solution on this? I do not yet have voice over IP and the CCIS cards cost about $20000 each so not an option.
The two systems are about 100m apart and can be connected through a twisted pair cable. i.e. Cat 5e.
Thanks

I have never done it but you may be referring to QSIG.

"QSIG is a common channel signaling protocol based on ISDN Q.931 standards and used by many digital PBXs. QSIG is used for the establishment and release of calls and for the control of a large number of features" (from
The step by step instructions are listed on under ISDN.

Another option which is a little more complex, is to setup another network segment.

We had an office somewhere, with a satellite office in Florida. Both were plugged into local networks, and those two networks had a VPN setup between them. only problem is, you neet Internet accesss and a router with a server that can handle VPN connection to do it. Worked well for quite some time on our Windows Server 2003 domain.

One thing to note. If VPN / data link ever goes out, then so does your second PBX.

In my estimate a simple 1 Ghz box with about 512 Mb of ram, something extremely dumpy, cambe setup with Windows Server 2003 configured to do VPN, and load firewall software like Microsoft ISA 2004 and put it on the internet behind something like a cheapo cable modem.

Maybe not cost-effective for what you need, but it can be done and is a different way of doing it.

I would go with the d channel card. you can get them for very cheap on ebay. why bother with qsig?

If your being offered CCIS cards for $20000 you need to start looking around for a better deal. Try ebay.
The 2000IPS does not support end to end ISDN PRI as it can only emulate USER activity and does n ot emulate NETWORK as the NEAX 2400 can.
The resolution would be the 24PRTA QSIG cards which by the way require both a CCIS AND ISDN licence.
The other option would be 2 T1 cards and a couple of QSIG SC01 cards.
Be aware that there are very limited features when using QSIG. There is no name display or any sort for VM integration etc.
The CCIS would be the far better choice you just need to shop arround.

Great thanks for this. If I wanted to do a CCIS link, what cards do I need to get for this? Also how difficult is the programming for this? Do I need a licence for this?

CCIS link would require on each end.
1 x PN-24CCTA - built in D channel Hdlr
1 x CCIS Licence

Programming is pretty straight forward with the manual. its step by step.

another idea might be a remote PIM at the second location using DAIA/DAID cards

A 24DTA and a SC00 card. I am not sure about the licensing on the IVS2000 but I am sure you need a CCIS link license. I am also not sure if NEC will sell that to you now as the it has ended it life cycle. Keep us informed.
