I'm using Crystal 10 and my database client is Oracle 9.2.0.5. When creating a report the "link" part of Database Expert does not respond...

I have to kill the application and I get an error that "crw32.exe hang application"...

Please help! I am unable to create a report with more than one table.

I've also researched the Crystal site and the Oracle site with no solutions...

What connectivity are you using? What are you linking, tables, Views, SPs, or?

There are 3 available:

Oracle supplied ODBC: Do NOT use this, this causes lots of errors, including bad data.

Oracle Native connectivity supplied by Crystal: Best, you'll see it listed as Oracle Server.

Crystal supplied Oracle ODBC: Second best, jsut make sure that you turn on the option Procedure Returns Results if you're using SPs.

Thanks for your quick reply...

The connectivity is Oracle Server (native connectivity)
I am only linking tables...

I get all of the tables that I need and I click on the "Link" tab to do my joins and that's when it "stops responding" I never even see the tables in the "Link" tab... I can not do anything in Crystal... I have to terminate the application...

Hi,
One odd thing to try...

Create a new desktop shortcut for your Crystal and be sure to have it 'point' directly to the crw32.exe file ( not to some location in your profile settings, like the installer creates) - have it start in that directory as well..

Also,
Do reports with no linked tables behave correctly?
Can you create reports using each of the tables you wanted to link to?

I tried this and am getting the same problem...
It hangs on the "Link" tab.

Also,
Do reports with no linked tables behave correctly? Yes.

Reports with just one table or one view work fine.

Can you create reports using each of the tables you wanted to link to?

Yes the tables by themselves work fine...

Hi,
OK,I'm mostly out of ideas..Try reinstalling Crystal Reports ( or do a repair, if that is an option from the add/remove programs applet..)

I'm going to create a case with crystal support. I'll post any results. Thanks for your help.

Hmmm, since it's only when linking, try testing with the Access databases and see if they crash when there's a link.

If you can link Access tables, then I'd be more suspect of your Oracle client than Crystal.

Also try testing with the Crystal supplied Oracle ODBC driver.

Your problem is that Crystal is trying to auto-link the tables. Turning off the auto linking function will resolve this issue. In Ver 10, this is done in the Windows Registry. See article c2014792 in the BO Knowledge Base for the instructions on how to perform this task.
