I have a customer with a Front End/Back End database on a server. I have the back end on the server and the front end on each user. There is a problem with the linking.

It asks you to link to the back end each and every time you log on. It loses the beck end connection for some reason.

Any ideas???????

is this been linked to an sql database???

If so have you saved the password when the originally linked the tables??

No, it's not linked to an sql database. There is no password involved.

I just split the database as I have many others and put the back end on the server and the front end on each user.

I had nothing to do with the network setup though. That was done by someone else.

My prgram runs an autoexec macro on startup and asks you to link to the back end. Normally, you do that one time and it stays linked unless the back end is moved on the server.

For some reason, the links are not staying maintained. I want to think it's a server problem but those guys think it's my problem.

is the link going through a mapped drive or using a network path i.e \\server\folder1\accessfilename.mdb

Have you tried this database using an admin user, and see if the link drops, it may be something to do with the permissions of the users - i must ammit i have had no issues at all with linked table etc (only with linking it to an sql database, but now i have solved that)

Hope this helps, there always think its someone elses problem, and when they do fix it, it still we not be their fault....

it's going through a network path. Th customer has since called back and said it seems as if it's stabilizing.
Customer says it's still dropping the link but not quite as often.

It has got me baffled. Doesn't make sense to do what it's doing!

is seems like access rights, but there again it may not....

usually a link stay untill either you delete it or re-link it else where.... very strange

I just hope it all sorts itself out.
