I have a multipage visio diagram that has the a shape representing the same task on several pages. I want those shapes linked, so that if I update one of them, the update is applied to all of them. This seems like a useful feature, but I can't see any way to do. Is this possible?

I can tell you similar case for use case diagram and sequence diagrams. You need to define the class at the top package level and then drag the objects from model explorer on different pages. This way if you change any property (for example- method name of a class), it should get reflected automatically in all diagrams.
