LINKING DATABASES

Good morning all, I am working with Access 2003 and was curious if there was a way I can link three databases if they are shared on a network drive in the same root folder.

Meaning I have one database which Team A manages and another which Team B manages independent of each other however I would like if possible to have a third database that I can pull reports from which include data items from each of the other databases?

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Do you have access security in place restricting who can get to these databases?

Well I guess that would lead to another question regarding security. I assumed I could just set rights for those I want updating the database(s) itself, correct?

Yes - that's right.

Its actually easier to use network file system permissions to restrict who has access, as an Access database can only have one workgroup security file.
If each has their own security permissions set on different objects, doing a combined reporting system is going to be difficult.

If you haven't got Access security in place, just create a new database and create linked tables to the tables in each of the databases. I'd get written permission from senior staff within each of the groups concerned though before proceeding with this due to data protection regulations.

If a user's UserID & PID are the same for different mdw files, and the user has permission to read from required tables then link those tables to a third mdb and enjoy! That user should also have full Read/Write/Delete/Execute permissions on both folders where those mdb files reside.

Do not forget about the written permission from both that John 's talking about!

Thanks guys for your thoughts I will do my best to syphon through the acronyms and give it a try. I'm sure I may end up with more questions.
