Question: Can a sybase database be queried using ms sql server. Are there settings that I need to enter on the sybase side or ms sql server side??? Thanks for any ideas.

Create a ODBC link (System DSN) to the Sybase database on the server where SQL server runs. Create a linked server within SQL server (Enterprise Manager: Server -> Security -> Linked Servers -> Linked server) which points to this ODBC.

General tab:
Linked server: <name you want to use to call sybase database>
Server type: other datasource: Microsoft OLE DB provider for ODBC drivers
Product name: <name of ODBC driver as showed in driver screen of ODBC's>
Data source: <name of your system DSN>
