I have 2 multiuser Acc97 DB's. Both are set to default shared. DB2 has a linked table from DB1. When a user opens DB2, if DB1 is not already open then it opens the linked table as exclusive. If DB1 is already open(i.e. shared)before DB2 opens, it works fine.

Any way to "force" DB2 to open the linked table as shared?

Hiya,

Sounds like it's opening 'exclusive' because no actual 'user' is opening it.

You got any security set on DB1 - admin, users etc?
You may need to take this off - can't see permissions
being passed to a DB through 'linked' tables.
(That would be logically secure - no argument).

How you open it with user info remotely - I don't know.

Tools-Options-Advanced
Default Open Mode: check 'Shared'
Do this on all computers that use your database.

Hi

I would suspect that the problen lies with the user not the database.

Do both users have (operating system) permissions for read/write/create/delete in the folders where the two Mdb's are located, if not this is your problem they must have such permissions to allow access to create the .ldb file.

Darrylle, Dan, & Ken:

Thanks for the posts! I've been struggling with this problem for a LONG time.

Darrylle - I have done this on both databases, (and from each user just to make sure) to no avail. Any other ideas?

Dan - I thought the same thing and stripped all security off and even changed everyone back to the default SYSTEM.MDW. So, now each user essentially opens as admin. But it didn't help - same behavior. What's your next guess?

Ken - All users have all privs in the respective directories. I DO think it is an .LDB problem. DB1.LDB is getting created by the "implicit" opening of DB1 when a user opens DB2. But DB1.LDB doesn't have the same settings as it would if DB1 were opened explicitly. (ie shared) Do you have any other suggestions?

Again thanks to EACH of you for your expert help! This is a real stumper (for me). I'm all ears. [bigears]
