Why is it that I cannot edit any of the fields in a table that is created by using the Linked tables.. and linking to a spreadsheet?
The spreadsheet is on the same machine and is not opened.

Have you got a unique key on either of the tables?

Yes,
The supplier table has a primary key, but the linked table does not.
Does this have a bearing?
What do I need to do?

Even if I remove the unique key on the supplier table I am still unable to edit the linked spreadsheet.

You need to add a unique reference, not remove it. Make sure that there is a unique key for the Excel 'table'.

Ok
I can give the supplier table a unique key, but how do you give a spreadsheet a unique key? how does access know to make it a key?

Right I have put a new column in the spreadsheet and linked to it. But, I still cannot make any edits to the table when I open it.
I am stumped!
Forget any of the other tables or querys, I should at least be able to open a linked spreadsheet and make direct changes to the table when opened, but I cannot change any of the field at all!

And you can edit the sheet directly, that is, by opening Excel?

Sorry for the delay,
yes I can edit it directly in Excel.
I struggle to understand why I cannot edit the linked spreadsheet when it is opened as a table?
Is there a setting that I have made in error that disables this functionality?

I am afraid that wabtrainer has an Access2002+ version.
Editing of linked excel feature is removed, due to copyrights.
