Can anyone Help, pls

I have set up schedule that extracts data from datasets of an Informix Database as CSV files :
quotes.csv
address.csv
narrative.csv

(pls note Informix database is used on a daily basis so information is updated on a regular basis, the applciation that we currently run does not give the users the flexibility to pull user reports, so I have developed an access database so as the data can interegated by the user without updated the tables)

The above CSV files are updated using COGNOS scheduler on a daily basis, I have then linked these file into a database. Every thing works fine, forms, etc. But, here comes the crunch, when I open another event of this database I come up with the error, that the File is opened Explicitley.

My intentions was to split the database eventually FrontEnd, installed on users PC and the BackEnd installed on a network drive. I am looking at about 8-10 users using this Database....

It is not a permission problem,I have Admin Rights, and all I am trying to do is test this database by opening a second event from the same location.

Can anyone out there help me with this problem, or any other solution.

The only other way I can think of is to transfer these file into database but will mean duplicates need to be deleted......

I have developed a database

Just a hunch... Do all the users have the same FILE PERMISSIONS?

What OS are the clients? If you have 9x and NT machines try and get it to work on those machines. If it works, consider upgrading Office.

Well it sounds as though access has opened the file and wont let anyone else have access to it.

lameid - No its not a permissions problem, I am testing this database before its distributed, I have Admin Permission to folder, file etc.... OS = NT4 SP6

macksta - Yes, that is correct but how do I get around this problem - Access 97 keeps opening this file exclusively and locking it - I have checked all sites I cannot find anything - is this a problem with Access 97 - is there a Patch available - I have updated MDAC etc...

Does the file also get locked when you access it through the ODBC text driver?

DonQuichote - When you say access it through ODBC text do you mean add the TEXT Driver in Control Panel/ODBC Data Source Administrator and configure the Driectory to point to where the database is - then open the database which I have then NO it does not work.

I have opened 2 version of this CSV file, it allows me to open it in Modify Mode then the second verion in read only.

I have tried to open 2 version of the Linked Tables it will not let me error: The microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the File Quotes.csv. It is opened exclusively by another user or you need permission to view its data......

I have done a test database by saving these files in .dbf fromat and linking them - I have no problem in opening several events - but the problem is I have written the database on csv field format, .dbf limits the characters in the fields - hence the database has to be written again...

Any Help Would be Appreciated........ Thanks in advance

IIRC when access links t o a text file, it locks it out so noone else can open it. The same happens the other way round, if someone is in the file, Access won't open it.
The only work around I've found is to import it into a temporary table, then delete it when I'm done.

oharab - Thanks!
I had a feeling that there was no-way around it in Access.
Damn that IIRC
