We have a Nortel 824 BCM with 4 lines set up on a hunt group. I am constantly having to manually release lines that are not dropping after employees finish calls. I have checked, and all the phones have autohold set to "N". I have instructed everyone to hit release, but our phones are constantly tied up because of lines not releasing. When you make a call on line one, and then hit line three, it places line one on hold. I think this is what they're doing. Is there a setting that will release the initial line at the point when you press a different line?

does the ksu say 8x24 ds if not you do not have disconnect supervision

ONLY 17 WEEKS TILL SKI SEASON STARTS

It does say DS on the KSU. Is disconnect supervision a manageable feature... i.e. could it be turned off?

Oops.. oh yeah... and thanks for any help- in advance... this is driving me nuts and two seperate service people have given me a vacant look when I asked this question. I love the phone system and all the features, but customers are constantly getting busy signals or being rolled over to an annoying fax whine...

Yes DS could be turned off, or your CLEC may not be providing it. Where did you come up with the term BCM. Are you sure thats what it is, or is it a norstar or meridian 8X24-DS.

How new is the system?

Actually, I meant KSU... I'm new to this terminology. I've been poring over so many pages of Nortel info... I must've picked up BCM somewhere. In any case, I called Bellsouth to ask about DS and whether or not it is a feature that they have to "turn on", and they had no idea what I was asking about.

I've looked through online documentation for programming the system, but I don't know what to look for specifically to remedy this problem.

This is the system I have... I purchased it through a local supplier:

(I didn 't buy it from this site, but it's identical to mine)

The top left of the unit reads: 8X24-DS.

OK..it could be a programming issue, or you may not have DS cards, or there is a slight chance Bellsouth is not sending a DS signal, especially if your lines are not POTS. Your best bet is probably to call a Norstar tech so he can check these things out for you.

Do the line cards inside the cabinet say DS or LSDS on them?

Under trunk programming Trunk Mode needs to be set to Super. Default in unsupervised.

The 8x24 did not use 4x0 cards unless you added an expansion module.

The phone company may not be sending the disconnect. I believe they refer to it as COD (cutoff on disconnect).

It would be best do call a Norstar Tech as bkrike said.

correct... my mistake... disregard the question about the cards inside the cabinet.

You stated that the KSU is an 8x24DS so you should have disconnect supervision on your lines. This is where it gets to be a bit more difficult. I had this same thing happen a few months back and it turned out to be the telephone company but finding someone who actually knew what I was talking about took over a week and I had to get down to an onsite technical supervisor and that ment turning in trouble after trouble on the lines. See Thread 799-808128 as this will give some ammo and hopefully assist you. You need a Nortel tech that can come out and knows how to check for DS or as the Telco will refer to it CPC (Calling Party Control). The Thread has a link to Mike Sandman who has a nice PDF of CPC that explains it very well. It turns out in my situation that the telephone company had problems with an old SLC-96 system that they could get DS to work on and had to change my lines to copper! Good Luck and keep us posted!

Wow. I would never have gotten this far without everyones help. Thanks! I am in touch with a Nortel tech and will have him check it out on my end and give me the info that I need to take back to the telco. I spoke with Bellsouth and the rep said that the only info he had on DS was for "trunk lines". He said I should ask the tech about the lines we have, "pots" lines. He didn't look up CPC or COD, but I didn't press him. I'll look into it more after I talk with the Nortel tech.
