line tool applying colour 1

Using the line tool and its dialogue box I can draw satisfactory lines but only in black Even checking the colour box fro red, blue etc the line remains black. Help please!

Once you draw your line and select it, you need to go to your swatches pallet and click on a swatch to change it's colour.

or

Bring up your colour pallet click on the stroke part of it and make a colour.

I HAVE ACTUALLY FOUND (IN THE LAST THIRTY MINUTES) THAT I NEED TO GO NACK AND CHANGE FROM CMYK TO RGB AND THEN I CAN FOLLOW YOUR LOGICAL APPROACH. I HOPE THAT THIS HELPS OTHERS
