Were running on exch. 2k but having an consultant migrate our mailboxes from 2k to 2003
he was only able to create 4 storage groups, but we wanted 6

is there a limit to how many ? i want to make sure he knows what he's doing

also,
how do we/i check the size of the storage group when creating it?
thanks

pctekkk,

It sounds like the setup from the consultant is correct. Standard edition will only allow you to create 1 storage group, Enterprise will allow you to create a maximum of 4.

You can create a 5th, but that is a recovery storage group only.

Remember that each storage group can contain 5 stores which can be made up from any combination of Mailbox and Public Folder Stores. (Or just 5 mailbox stores).

I would question any consultant that doesnt know this.

Hope this helps

Stephen

thanks for the heads up !!

question again,
we went ahead w/ 4 stores separated
all mailboxes/users into each.

only 1 store shows the listing for public folders
1. will everyone see the public folders(is this correct)
2. the public folders we did have on Exch. 2000 are missing
i see them on the netbackup for restore
will/should i be able to restore them to Exchange 2003 w/ no issues ??

i will post this elsewhere also though
thanks

from memory, MS recommend stores at 3,000 users each.

How many users have you got?

I'm affraid i'm still finding my way with Public Folders. My company doesnt use them much.

From what little i do know, all users should be able to see and use the Public folders.

As for doing a restore i cant really help you, i would be courious to know the answer if you get it.

Cheers

Stephen

o no
we have 260 mailboxes total

but i did want to know where do you/do i find
the Size of each store to ensure it has/was created w/ enough storage space

we need to know what size store 1 - 4 is
that contain the users/mailboxes

thanks

you could restore the PFs to the recovery storage group which will see they are 2000 and offer to upgrade them for you.

Public folders may not have been migrated properly / at all.

how would i go about that restore to the "storage group"
then ??

i did contact veritas to see how i can restore them though
so i might be getting some help soon.

i tried w/ netbackup to restore but it doesnt show the "recover storage group" or
another store to restore to, i need to put it in(i.e...

Microsoft Information Store:\wsexs-sg2\Public Folder Store (WSEXS)

so i assume it will be restored to the location i specify only

RSG is a storage group within Exchange, not your backup software. You have to set it up first then restore to it.
