Hello:

I have seen worksheets that will display only, for example, columns a,b,c & d and rows 1,2,3 & 4. The balance of the spreadsheet (to the right of column d and below row 4)appears grey. I know there is information in the cells that are not visible, based on the calculations within the cells that do show up. It doesn't seem as if this is a product of hiding the columns / rows.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Chris

You can protect the sheet using the Tools | Protect menu options and there you have options to preserve layout formats.

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks guys. I feel a bit stupid not at least trying the hide / unhide command. I am used to seeing a subtle indicator that there were indeed rows / columns hidden (not to mention the break in column / row headings). It seems there is no such indicator when you obliterate the rows / columns all the way to the end.

Thanks again.

Select the rows or columns to hide.

Right click

Select Hide

I think what you need to do here is a couple of things as follows:

Code:
1) Unprotect the cells in rows 1,2,3,4 and columns A,B,C,D
2) Shade the visible cells gray in Colunms E thru whatever is visible on your screen and in Rows 5 thru whatever is visible on your screen
3) Protect the sheet and uncheck "select locked cells"

This will give you the desired effect of "hiding" the rows and columns as you have indicated.

Hope this helped!

In addition to my previous post if there are formulas or data items in the cells that are grayed you should use the same color for the text as you use for the shading which will again give the illusion of hiding the cells and their values.

BTW to Unhide EVERYTHING,
click the SELECT ALL Button,
right click in the COLUMN HEADINGS Area and select Unhide,
right click in the ROW HEADINGS Area and select Unhide

WOW! Skip I gave you a star cause once again you have shown me that I don't need to recreate the wheel. I should have paid more attention to what you were saying before offering up my "wheel" of a solution.

Thanks!
